The Field of Battle and Evil Army Composition

I took the opportunity start setting up the board in anticipation of the upcoming battle this weekend and took some pictures to post as a sort of pre-battle reconnaissance if you will. I might throw in some additional small clutter, but this should be the general layout.

The objective, looking toward the ruin

Inside the ruin

Somewhere south of Rauros, near the border of Anorien and the old province of Calenardhon sits an ancient monument on a small hill near a ruin. The significance of this monument is unknown. Does it mark the location of treasure? Ancient and powerful artifacts? Does the ancient stone have inscribed words of wisdom or power? Or is it nothing more than a relic of a kingdom in its days of power and glory? The Lord of Mordor is unsure, but has dispatched several warbands of his army to search for it and find out. He must deem it important, as the overall effort is led by his emissary, the Mouth of Sauron, with a bodyguard of Morannon Orcs. The second warband hails from Minas Morgul and is led by Dolguzagar, the Black Numenorean Marshal. The final warband is captained by Gorbag with several orcs out of Cirith Ungol. They march with a sense of urgency, as scouts have reported sightings of Rohirric riders and infantry in the area on a similar mission. Who will get there first, and who will hold the field at the end of the day? This remains to be seen...

  1. Very nice. the board looks great. Is that 3'x3'? It's kinda hard to get a sense of scale from the picture... but it looks smaller than a 4'x4' board.

looking forward to seeing the batrep. my gaming group is holding a mini-tournament tomorrow - so it looks like there will be much carnage in middle earth between us.

and as a fellow lover of Cirith Ungol, you should give Shagrat, Warleader a spin. He is a real beast who never fails to disappoint. Arguably the best hero Evil has to offer (for his cost anyway).

    1. It is 3'x3' in fact. The table is just on the edge of being 4' wide, so I shortened it up a bit so that we wouldn't have to worry about models falling off the table edge ;) I've been trying to keep an eye out for the Shagrat Warleader model that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but so far I haven't had much luck. One of these days...
