Warriors of Rohan Update

The warriors are almost done, last major parts to be painted are the shields. My last warriors were painted with a green field to the shields, I think I might try for a red this time. I don't have Erkenbrand, but if I ever get him it would be useful to have a few troops easily identifiable as "red shields". I got a gift card for Christmas that I haven't used yet and I'm tempted to place an order for some models, just haven't decided what yet.
Anyway, will hopefully have them finished this evening and possibly post some pictures.

Next Project

Now that the trackers are done (still have six more, but will leave those for a later date) it is time to move on. It sounds like I'll be facing at least some Rohan infantry and cavalry at the upcoming battle. My six Riders are already painted, as well as eight shields and eight throwing spears, so I've started work on four more of each. I plan on using the same general paint scheme I used on the last batch (rohan with throwing spears). Painted the bases, cloaks, skin and hair, so will probably move onto the clothing and equipment today hopefully.

Orc Trackers

Got my trackers finished finally :) Hope you enjoy the pictures.

And here are a couple of individual trackers that I took shots of.

I used a mostly brown theme for the trackers, painting their clothes alternating Scorched Brown, Snakebite Leather, Bestial Brown, and Dark Flesh. The quivers and bracers were all painted Vermin Brown to try to give a sense of continuity between them, as well as all the bows were painted Charadon Granite. The clothing and equipment also all received a Devlan Mud wash. The skin is Catachan Green, and the hair, arrows and arrow fletching is highlighted with Codex Grey.

Battle Prep Continues

Good afternoon, small update today. Work continues on my Orc Trackers. I have three of them done with primary painting, and three to go. I've been painting their clothing/equipment in a few shades of brown, mainly Scorched Brown, Vermin Brown and Snakebite Leather. Also some Dark Flesh thrown in. Once I get the rest done I will work on giving them some washes and finishing touches.
In other news, we have set a planned date for our next battle, Sunday the 30th, and it looks like I will be facing a Rohan army. Or at least an army that includes Rohirric elements. Should be fun :) Once I get my trackers done I may see about getting a few more of my rohan troops painted. My six Riders of Rohan are all set to go, but it wouldn't hurt to get more of the infantry painted.

Photo Box Trial

I built (something of an overstatement) my milk jug photo box, and took it for a trial run with my Troll Chieftain which I had recently added ballast and static grass to its base.
Unboxed pic. Not sure if it is quite the best comparison as this was probably the best time of day for picture taking as the natural sunlight was coming in through the window.

Boxed pic. I like how it turned out, even if it almost does seem slightly washed out. I like that it removes the background from the equation. Will just have to play with light angles and so on to see what gives the best results.

Small Update

Not too much to report today. Been working on some of my Orc Trackers for the past couple days, though the pace has been slow. A few of them feature in my prospective list for our next battle, so I would like to get them done ahead of time. I finished painting their skin Catachan Green, and the bases with Stirland Mud and Bestial Brown. Have to decide what to do next. I did get a bag of static grass as well as a bag of Woodland Scenics ballast for basing. I added some grass to a couple of my Morannon Orcs I posted previously and it was much easier than I had anticipated. Not quite sure what I was concerned about before. I also saved an empty milk jug to make photo box, so we shall see how that turns out. Just need a desk lamp.

Morannon Orcs

Here are a couple of Morannon Orcs that I recently painted, as I am considering using them as part of my army in our next battle. I already had a few painted, so I didn't need a whole bunch more. At least not yet anyway ;)

The bases are Stirland Mud with Bestial Brown highlights. The skin is Gretchin Green, and the cloth of the shirts is Mechrite Red. The pants are Scorched Brown with Snakebite Leather highlights, and the straps of the armor are also Snakebite Leather. The armor itself was fully painted with Tin Bitz, and then drybrushed with Chainmail. The swood of the spears and the shield is also Scorched Brown with Snakebite Leather. As a finishing touch, the models got a wash of Badab Black. Hope you like the pictures, and as a bonus, this marks 100 published posts for my blog. Yay me! I am reminded of a The Simpsons episode where during the intro Bart is writing "I will not celebrate meaningless milestones" on the blackboard. Ah well... Anyway, hope you enjoy :)
